On writing your character's story, and why I wish to read it

25 Oct, 17:53

Every citizen has a page on this website, and every page has room for a story. Most are empty. That is a pity, because a character with a past is a character other players can play with.

A few thoughts from a man who reads for a living:

  • Start small. Where were they born? What did their father do? What do they want, and what are they afraid of? Three sentences beat three pages left unwritten.
  • Leave doors open. A debt unpaid, a brother gone missing, a lord who wronged them. These are hooks other players can pull on.
  • Keep to the age. Bohemia, 1400s. Saints and silver, plague and war, a king not everyone wants.
  • Let it change. Your story is no oath. Add to it as your character lives.

Write yours on your account page. Then post it here, or a chapter of it, and let the realm read it.

I will read every one. That is a promise.

Lords forget. Parchment remembers.
